Charity Tax Tools

Welcome to the new Charity Tax Tools on Sector Source.  Each section contains information about the basic legal requirements for all Canadian charities that are registered with CRA and entitled to issue tax receipts for charitable donations.

Thinking about becoming a charity? This is the place to start!

All about the activities that your charity may undertake, and rules and restrictions on them.

All about receiving gifts from donors, and issuing tax receipts to them.

All about keeping your charity's financial and governance books and records, recording transactions, and preparing financial statements and other reports.

Knowing how and when to work with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) can simplify your compliance activities, protect your legal rights, and minimize the risk of penalties, sanctions or CRA audits.

Charity Tax Tools was developed by Imagine Canada to help registered charities understand what they must do in order to meet Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements. Production of the CTT website was made possible by a financial contribution from CRA.
